ACL injury? Your mind needs rehab just as much as your knee.

The book for the phase no doctor covers: the mental one. 15 chapters, around 30 practical tools, a community – written by someone who's been through it. Twice.

Paperback, Hardcover & E-Book (Kindle)

Sound familiar?

You're not alone. Around 200,000 ACL injuries happen every year in the US alone. What comes after is so much more than just rehab.

  • After surgery, I felt completely lost mentally – but everyone only asked about my knee.

    The invisible side of injury
  • I had no plan for those months. No system. Just waiting.

    Lost in limbo after surgery
  • Everyone says: You'll be fine. But nobody understands what it actually feels like.

    When good intentions aren't enough
  • I'm no longer an athlete. I'm a patient. And I hate it.

    When your identity starts crumbling
  • At 3 AM I lie awake, wondering if I'll ever make it back.

    The fear nobody sees
  • There are a thousand rehab exercises – but zero help for what's going on in your head.

    The gap in the system

Why this book exists

Written by someone who knows what it feels like.

Marcel

I've been through four rehabs. Two of them knocked me completely off track mentally – above all my hand rehab, and to some extent my first ACL tear too. Not physically – there was physiotherapy for that. In my head. I isolated myself, ignored the dark phases, and pretended everything would sort itself out. It didn't.

In my last rehab, I did things differently. More consciously. More structured. More honest with myself. I built a system that carried me through the months – through the good days and through the really awful ones.

This book is what I needed during those first rehabs. Not a medical guide, not motivational fluff. An honest companion that shows you how to not just survive this phase, but actively shape it.

Mentally, the hardest part wasn't the ACL – it was my hand rehab, and, honestly, my first ACL tear as well. During my first ACL tear, I was in vocational training. My supervisor rearranged my rotations so I could work from the office instead of standing in the workshop. I was back after six weeks. Physically, things went fine. Mentally, I pushed everything aside and withdrew. For a long time I kept thinking: I just hope I somehow make it back.

When I tore my ACL the second time, I approached it differently. It required two surgeries. Before the first one, I spent ten days with friends in Malta: sun, sea, laughter. Before the second surgery, I backpacked solo through the Philippines. Three weeks of solo travel. Three weeks of living. Those trips gave me more than rest – they reminded me: my life is bigger than this surgery.

But I didn't just come back – I went further. I played football again, ran half marathons, raced mountain bikes, hiked on three continents, climbed active volcanoes, and explored vast national parks.

Not everything was perfect. But so much of it was more intense. Because I appreciated it more. Because I knew how much I'd fought for it. And that experience is woven into every page of this book.

The biggest challenge isn't coming back. It's staying the course.

Not theoretical knowledge, but lived experience. Not a doctor, not a therapist – someone who's been through it and shares what actually works.
